American Legends, and Babies, too! The Blockley Welcomes Steve Kimock and Friends Featuring Bernie Worrell

By TheMusicVibes

Get in the right kind of funk this week when Steve Kimock and Friends featuring Bernie Worrell hit The Blockley this Wednesday!   It’s a bit hard to describe exactly what to expect from Pennsylvania-born Steve Kimock as he is a master of improvisation, but we can guarantee the show he’ll play with his son and drummer John Kimock, bassist Ron Johnson and vocalist/percussionist Camille Armstrong Will get you moving and grooving. Special guest Bernie Worrell holds  the “keys” to taking it over the top!

Kimock has been on the scene for decades and his experience is evidenced through his playing by both his technical command and focused passion.  He cofounded Zero in the 80s, KVWH in the 90s, and is still going strong as he tackles a variety of genres on his electric, lap, acoustic, and pedal steel guitars.  His collaborations are as impressive as they are numerous; Robert Hunter, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, The Everyone Orchestra, Bruce Hornsby, Merl Saunders, Melvin Seals  and The Allman Brothers are just some highlights.  Through his improvisation, Kimock achieves an exploratory relationship with music which allows him to maximize its powerful, cathartic impact on audiences.

If you don’t recognize the name “Bernie Worrell” then perhaps you’ve heard of Parliament-Funkadelic or Talking Heads?  Keyboardist Worrell served as a founding member and Musical Director of the revolutionary funk band, Parliament Funkadelic. You’ll also find him psychokillin’ it on Talking Heads albums “The Name of This Band is Talking Heads” and “Speaking in Tongues” as well as concert film “Stop Making Sense.” Worrell’s early piano exposure and prodigal talent led him to compose his first concerto at age 8. After mastering classics, Worrell went on to revolutionize keyboard playing through his use of synthesizers.  Today he commands the WOOniverse with The Bernie Worrell Orchestra and first appeared with Kimock and Friends in 2012.

Attending Kimock and Friends featuring Bernie Worrell is a no-brainer, but remember to come to the show on time because American Babies is opening and released their third album “Knives & Teeth” via Royal Potato Family TODAY, OCTOBER 15th.  They will definitely be bringing their best to the stage!  If you haven’t seen American Babies before, perhaps you’ll recognize Tom Hamilton from Brother’s Past as he heads this return-to-roots band.
