Fall may be bringing performances from their outdoor festival arenas to the great indoors but at the end of the day, the music never stops! The Heavy Pets is one band we’re especially excited to make the summer-to-fall transition with, and they’ll be playing The Blockley this Saturday, September 21,, 2013. Their style blends rhythm and blues, jazz-funk, nu-disco, and reggae-fusion, with rock & roll and Relix has identified them as “a living, breathing, force of nature.” Their lyrics have also received recognition, guiding their audience as they jam to new levels. Their performance at The Blockley will offer attendees the opportunity to purchase The Heavy Pets’ new A/B side single Two Horses prior to its release on October 1st. The Heavy Pets were able to balance recording their album with their busy tour schedule by self-producing the effort and recording at hometown Power Station Recording Studios.
This release is expected to propel the band’s success even further, and given the attention they received for “Operation of Flight” and “Sleep” off of 2007’s Whale, 2010’s self-titled album, 2011’s acoustic Swim Out Past the Sun, and the Everywhere Sessions: Volume I EP, we find this expectation to be pretty realistic! Tracks “Last Babies” and “Keep Me Running” are highly anticipated and demonstrate the band’s diverse talent range. “Last Babies” is a lyrically-driven lo-fi rocker, whereas the hip-hop groove of “Keep Me Running” shows off the band’s musical chops, but is also complemented by strong but sparing lyrics. The band has been playing these songs live, so they may sound familiar, but the studio versions are sure to dazzle!
The Heavy Pets have been tearing it up this summer, playing Rootwire, The Big Up, Aura, and Equifunk, among other fests and venues. Their upcoming Blockley performance is a must-see, especially because the heights this band may reach following the release of “Two Horses” is yet to be determined! Jeff Lloyd on guitar/vocals, Mike Garulli on guitar/harmonica/vocals, Jim Wuest on keys/vocals, Tony D’Amato on bass, and Jamie Newitt on drums will be bringing their all, so bring your whole crew! The Heavy Pets could have been spotted in many crowds both at festivals and venues back when they were a supporting act so their headlining act is very deserving of an attentive crowd!
The night will also feature support from the legendary DJ Logic and keyboardist Steve Molitz (Particle, Phil Lesh & Friends). The two have played together in Headtronics but also have careers under their own respective names.
