Gotta Have that Funk? Equifunk: An All-Inclusive Music Festival August 16-18th, 2013

The distinct aroma of sunscreen and bug spray, the first cannonball of the summer, the adrenaline of team sports- what’s not to love about going to camp in the summer? This summer, camp has become even cooler with the sixth installment of Equifunk: The All Inclusive Music Festival.  While most festivals have a lengthy list of what attendees should bring, Equifunk instructs its attendees to bring only appropriate clothing and swimsuits because this event is all-inclusive. Access to all music, camp facilities, meals and unlimited beer come with each ticket purchase and make this reasonably-priced festival ($350 cabins, $225 VIP camping or $185 regular camping) even more of a bargain! Plus, with a cap-off of about 1,500 funky guests, it is safe to conclude that all of these amenities will be accessible. “The all-inclusive set up makes it feel like you’re at someone’s private party,” explained festival creator Eric Kamen. “Each year our attendance has doubled, but it still keeps the intimate vibe we set out for.”

The camping arrangements, whether you choose the Cabins or the facilities at Blue Ridge and Equinunk Camps, sound amazing and the line-up of artists is sure to astound you.  Soulive is sure to please, continuing their legacy of impressive collaborations by welcoming legendary saxophonist, Maceo Parker, and top-shelf ensemble, The Shady Horns, to share the stage. Parker has performed with the likes of James Brown, George Clinton, and Prince and his scheduled appearance with Soulive truly suggests they are at the top of today’s funk scene.  The New Mastersounds will be gracing fans with two highly-anticipated sets. They will also be appearing at The Blockley the Thursday prior to the festival so those heading there from Philly can ease into a funky weekend which is guaranteed to overwhelm. The soulful JJ Grey and Mofro, dance-invoking Boombox, The Main Squeeze, high-energy Keller Williams, Marco Benevento and Mother’s Wine, a popular local band, are among the lengthy list of performers sure to put attendees in a funk!

And if that isn’t enough reason to head to this all-inclusive experience, Equifunk keeps the persuasion coming with the addition of a Sunday Series for the first time in the festival’s history. Sunday will get a little Phishy with John Fishman’s band, Pork Tornado, scheduled to appear. “I always wanted to book Pork Tornado at Equifunk,” Kamen beamed. “I’m a fan and when I heard they were available, I jumped on it immediately — their country-funk style is a perfect fit for what this festival was built on.”  The Revivalists, The Heavy Pets, and The London Souls will keep fans grooving all throughout Sunday.  This extra day is also sure to be made extra special by collaborations that will go where no Equifunk has gone before.  The M&M’s are sure to melt minds as John Medeski, Papa Mali, Robert Mercurio, Marco Benevento, Maceo Parker, and Stanton Moore combine their genius. The equally-impressive Equifunk All-Stars boast Eddie Roberts, Nigel Hall, James Casey, Stanton Moore, and Pete Shand. If you gotta have that funk and wouldn’t mind unlimited beer, meals, daily activities, swimming, and scenic camping thrown in, too, Equifunk is the place to be this summer!
