Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe Expands with the Release of “New Ammo,” Check Them Out at The TLA this Thursday!

By TheMusicVibes

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe will be serving up big sound when they hit the Theater of Living Arts this Thursday, January 30th.  One of the leading names in saxophone, flute, and vocals, Karl Denson has made a name for himself over the past three decades playing with Lenny Kravitz, The Greyboy Allstars, and, most recently, Slightly Stoopid. Through his Tiny Universe project, Denson is able to have full command over the dance parties sure to ensue at any of their live appearances. Denson last performed in Philadelphia this past September at The Blockley with opener The Soul Rebels. This round, rock-fusion group Tauk will be taking the stage first.  Those who have caught the master musician before can expect to witness his growth since past performances, as Denson is touring in support of his new album, “New Ammo” to be released by Stoopid Records February 4th, 2014.

It has been five years since KDTU came out with “Brother’s Keeper,” adding to the anticipation of the 13-track album being released next week.  Listeners can expect to see favorites such as the title track and “Everybody Knows That” from the band’s live performances perfected into studio versions. While fans of Denson know that nothing compares to a live performance, the musician believes that may change with the debut of “New Ammo.” “We’ve finally figured out how to capture in the studio what the Tiny Universe does live,” says Denson, “We move around a lot musically, but this record reflects who we are as a band and where we’re headed with our music.”  One thing this band does is play some amped up covers! The White Stripes‘ “Seven Nation Army,” Beastie Boy’sSure Shot,” and Cold War Kids’Hang Me Up to Dry” are among the 13 tracks to be released.  As for originals, listeners can expect to hear the results of Denson’s recent guitar endeavors on “My Baby,” a track featuring Nicki Bluhm on vocals.

If you’ve seen Denson before, we probably don’t have to tell you twice to catch him this week. If you’ve been missing out, be sure to expand your musical universe by heading to the TLA this Thursday!

Bonus: Today is the last day to bring winter wear donations to the TLA for a pair of free tickets to the show!

Tickets are $18 in advance or $27 day of show, so be sure to plan ahead!
