The Shakedown Flea Market at The Blockley
“Don’t tell me this town ain’t got no heart. When I can hear it beat out loud!” Well Philadelphia, that sound may be emanating from the walls of one of our favorite venues, The Blockley, as it hosts its own rendition of Shakedown Street this Sunday, June 30th. The SHAKEDOWN FLEA MARKET is a unique bazaar that hosts such artisans as those that open up shop amidst jam artists like Phish, Widespread Panic, Furthur and Moe. The Blockley was somehow able to capture this free-spirited merchant environment and present it as an indoor vendor exhibition at their artisan friendly venue on 38th and Chestnut.
The SHAKEDOWN FLEA MARKET at The Blockley hosts a plethora of vendors and has now become a monthly communal gathering; permeating positive vibes and attracting a rich and diverse crowd. The policy BYOV or “Bring Your Own Vinyl” is encouraged. The DJ, Professor Slim, will spin visitors’ tracks from their own records (among others) throughout the event. Also, if you do happen to bring your own vinyl, you are granted a drink on the house at the bar!
Perhaps you will find that one bag, pin, record, or necklace that you really liked at the last festival you attended, but just didn’t get. Paul Capella of Touch and Go Designs described the Shakedown Flea Market saying, “I love the Blockley! Its definitely one of the best venues in the city to see a show, and the booking staff do a great job with the acts they pull in. As for the Shakedown Flea Market: we’ve been to every one they’ve had so far. Met a lot of cool people, vendors and shoppers. And really it’s a great way to get our art out there to people who would probably never cross paths with us. Plus, it’s usually just a good time having a few drinks, and listening to music. Bring a record and they will play it AND you get a free drink!- that’s my favorite deal! So as long as they continue to do Shakedown, Touch And Go will be there.”

MAKIN WHOOPIE KITCHEN
–Golden Panda
Panda Emas, which translated from Indonesian meaning “The Golden Panda”, is a family run business which has been in operation since March 2010. We are more of a catering service than a restaurant. We supply small grocery stores with pre-packaged meals daily, Monday – Saturday, but we also cater small events. Our goal is to eventually have our own restaurant, while using events like this to introduce people to Indonesian Cuisine gets us ultimately closer to this goal. We have a wide variety of food, from platters with rice, vegetable & meat or tofu/soybean (for our non-meat-eating friends), as well as hand held foods and desserts, we try to introduce something new to each event.
